2014 India Vs Sri Lanka Fifth ODI AT Ranchi Sunday Nov 16,2014

Virat Kohli Scores his 21st ODI Ton as India beats Sri Lanka 5-0
Virat Kohli has scored 14 hundreds when India have been chasing, 13 of which have resulted in victories for his side
For Sri Lanka Angelo Mathews once again played a captain’s knock as he not only registered his maiden ODI hundred (136*), but also helped Sri Lanka post 286/8

Angelo Mathews scores 1062 Runs in 2014 in ODI's(average 70.80) in 25 games and Virat Kohli follows with 1054 Runs (average 58.55) in 21 games

Chasing 287 for a win on a turning wicket at the JSCA International Stadium was never going to be easy. But Kohli (unbeaten on 139) and his boys held their nerves to complete a series whitewash under the watchful eyes of BJP chief Amit Shah.

Virat Kohli's blazing ton helps India seal series whitewash
Not only was it India’s first whitewash against Sri Lanka in a bilateral series at home since 1982, but also India’s 100th win across all formats against Sri Lanka.

Number of wins that India has now achieved against Sri Lanka, across formats - 83 in ODIs, 14 in Tests and three in T20Is

Team India extended its dominance over Sri Lanka on the cricket field by completing an overwhelming 5-0 ODI series win over the visitors on Sunday, which is also their sixth consecutive bilateral series win

India's three-wicket victory is their 100th in international cricket out of 190 contested vs Sri Lanka - 14 in Test Cricket; 83 in ODIs and three in T20Is. They have lost 63, tied one, drawn 15 and NR 11. India thus became the first team to achieve this distinction vs Sri Lanka

India lost Ajinkya Rahane (2) and Rohit Sharma (9) inside the fifth over, but Ambati Rayudu (59) combined beautifully with Kohli as the duo slowly took the game away from the visitors

Just when it looked like they would win the match for India, an error of judgement in the 28th over saw Kohli refusing Rayudu a single and the latter failing to make it to the crease. The disappointment on Kohli’s face clearly showed how he repented running his partner out

The wicket brought Sri Lanka back in the game as the likes of Robin Uthappa (19), Kedar Jadhav (20) and Stuart Binny (12) threw their wickets away.

India wobbled from 215-4 to 231-7 as Ajantha Mendis (4-73) picked up quick wickets before Kohli took control.

Virat Kohli is the first batsman to complete 1000 runs in ODIs in four consecutive years - 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014

Virat Kohli's match-winning unbeaten 139 is his highest score while batting at number four, bettering the 133 not out against Sri Lanka at Hobart on February 28, 2012.

Virat Kohli has got his fourth 'Player of the Series' award in ODIs - twice against Sri Lanka and once each vs West Indies and Australia
