.

From Monday June 09,2014 onwards office-goers will benefit from the latest East-West connectivity in Mumbai.
The metro service comes four months after the city got the country's first monorail between suburban Chembur and Wadala on February 01,2014

Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL)has fixed a minimum fare of Rs 10 and a maximum Rs 40 for a one way journey

MMOPL is a joint venture company formed by Reliance Infrastructure, Veolia Transport and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority

Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan inaugurates Mumbai's first Metro, starting from Versova station. Tina and Anil Ambani were also present.

After refusing to turn up over the dispute of fares, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan did finally inaugurate the Metro service on Sunday in Mumbai.
In the run-up to the inauguration, CM Prithviraj Chavan had threatened to boycott the event if the Anil Ambani's Reliance Infrastructure-led consortium of Mumbai Metro One did not roll back the fares.
Reliance did not budge an inch, and Chavan was left with no choice but to turn up for the inauguration along with deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The first train was flagged off at 10.10am from Versova near Andheri on the western suburbs of Mumbai.

However, the first service became memorable for commuters who had thronged in large numbers for all the wrong reasons. The first service, which left Ghatkopar station on the eastern suburbs at 12.20pm, was already 10 minutes beyond schedule when it was held up at Asalpha and Saki Naka for 10 minutes.
Metro One officials attributed the delay due to technical difficulties.
However, Mumbai commuters did not seem to mind the delay as the air conditioned coaches provided a respite from the scorching heat outside, not to mention the novelty of traveling on the first day of the service.

By evening the Mumbai Metro had already clocked over a lakh passengers.

The 11km Metro rail route with 12 stations now offers better connectivity between eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai.
