Former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was sworn in as president of Egypt for a 4-year term on Sunday June 08,2014 in a ceremony with low-key attendance by Western allies concerned by the country’s crackdown on dissent since he ousted Islamist leader Mohammed Morsi last year
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi won a landslide victory in presidential elections held last month, receiving nearly 97 % of the vote, with a turnout of 47.45%
Abdel Fattah al- Sis took the oath of office before the Supreme Constitutional Court at the tribunal's Nile-side headquarters in a suburb south of Cairo, the same venue where Morsi, now on trial for charges that carry the death penalty, was sworn in two years ago
Before a panel of judges at the Supreme Constitutional Court, Abdel Fattah al- Sisi swore to protect Egypt’s republican system, unity law and the interests of its people.
