2014 Brussels G 7 Summit June 4-5,2014


The leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission (G7 leaders) meet in Brussels on June 04-05,2014 in the G7 format.



Over dinner on June 04,2014 Wednesday night, G7 leaders focused on Ukraine and their relations with Russia. They welcomed the election on May 25,2014 of Petro Poroshenko as President and repeated their support to Ukraine's economic and political reforms as well as their readiness to intensify sanctions on Russia if required.


They also denounced the 3 June sham presidential election in Syria and discussed the situation in Iran, Lybia, Mali and Central African Republic among other foreign policy issues.

The second working session on Thursday June 05,2014 will focus on climate change and energy security topics, with a view to reinforce the diversification of energy routes and sources. Leaders are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to limit the effects of global warming and express their strong commitment to the adoption of a global agreement on climate in 2015.
Finally on Thursday June 05,2014 lunch will be devoted to development issues and the establishment of a post-2015 international framework on the topic.
The European Union is a full member of the G8 (and the G20) and is jointly represented by the European Council President and the European Commission President.
It is the first time that the EU hosts a summit and that it takes place in Brussels. The two-day meeting, at the Council of the European Union - Justus Lipsius building, will end Thursday 5 June around 3 p.m
US President Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Italian President Matteo Renzi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and British Prime Minister David Cameron participate in a session on the global economy during the G7 Summit at the European Council in Brussels
