Anandiben Patel Replaces Narendra Modi as Chief Minister of Gujarat Wednesday May 22,2014

Revenue and Urban Development Minister Anandiben Patel(73) will be sworn in as Gujarat's first woman chief minister on Thursday May 22,2014

Anandiben Patel was unanimously elected BJP Legislature Party Leader on Wednesday, soon after Modi tendered his resignation as the chief minister to Governor Kamla Beniwal.

A close confidante of Modi since the 90s, Anandiben Patel  is the longest-serving BJP minister in Gujarat. She has been a minister since the Keshubhai Patel government in 1995. Modi replaced Keshubhai Patel in October 2001.

Born in Kharod village in north Gujarat, Anandiben began her political career with the RSS and joined the BJP in 1987 to later become the chairperson of the party's women's wing.

Anandiben Patel became an MLA for the first time from Mandal constituency in Ahmedabad district. She was then made the Cabinet minister for education, child and women welfare in the Keshubhai Patel government


Anandiben Mafatbhai Patel is the new Chief Minister of Gujarat. She was sworn in as the CM on Thursday May 22,2014 at the "auspicious time" of 12.39 pm. She is also Gujarat's first woman Chief Minister.
Her predecessor and now PM-elect Narendra Modi was present for the event. Also attending the ceremony were senior BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu, Gopinath Munde and Keshubhai Patel. Also seen amongst guests was Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi.
After the swearing in, Anandiben was congratulated by the Gujarat MLAs. Her supporters chanted, "Bharat Mata Ki, Jai!"
