UPA II Govt's Last Parliament Session Begins Wednesday Feb 05,2014


Parliament met today Wednesday Feb 05,2014 for its final session before the national election, and as expected, both houses witnessed angry, loud and persistent disruptions over the plans to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and create a Telangana state.

Law-makers from different parties have vowed of repeat protests against the government's decision to split Andhra Pradesh and turn the region of Telangana into India's 29th state


The Union Govt has said Telangana, one of the three regions of Andhra Pradesh, will be made India's 29th state. The other two regions, referred to as "Seemandhra" are virulently opposed to this and their representatives say they will fight the move.

The Congress' central leadership wants Parliament to debate and vote on the bill that splits the state so that it can make electoral gains in Telangana in the national election. But state leaders from the Congress, including Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy stoutly oppose

Parliament stalled for second consecutive day Thursday Feb 06,2014


Both the Houses were disrupted as members created uproar over creation of separate Telangana state, harassment of Tamil fishermen by Sri Lanka, 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Pathribal fake encounter case and killing of a student from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi

Trouble started in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as soon as the proceedings began in the Parliament. While Lok Sabha was adjourned initially till noon and then till Friday, Rajya Sabha was also adjourned, first till noon, then till 2 pm and finally for the day

In Lok Sabha

The members from Andhra Pradesh, cutting across party lines, storming the Well shouting slogans in favour or against separate Telangana. While YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as also several members from Seemandhra were holding placards for ‘United Andhra Pradesh’, those from Telangana wanted the bill for the separate state to be brought early

Sabbam Hari (Cong) and M Venugopala Reddy (TDP), who are opposed to division of the state, gave the no-confidence notices shortly before the House met for the day

Three members, including one from Congress, had given no-confidence motion notices yesterday also. They were V Aruna Kumar (Cong), Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Konakalla Narayana Rao (both TDP).

DMK members were in the Well drawing attention to Sri Lanka’s harassment of fishermen from Tamil Nadu while Akali Dal members raised the issue of 1984 anti-Sikh riots

In Rajya Sabha

AIADMK members rushed to Well demanding a discussion on the arrest of Tamil fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities.

TDP members also came rushing to the Well opposing bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

As pandemonium continued, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House till 2 pm and then finally for the day as similar scenes prevailed when the House met again.
