Mark Spitz(USA)Swimmer



Mark Andrew Spitz (DOBFebruary 10, 1950) is an American former competition swimmer, 9-time Olympic champion, and former world record-holder in 7 events.

Mark Spitz won 7 Gold Medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich,Germany, an achievement surpassed only by Michael Phelps(USA) who won 8 Golds at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing,China

Mark  Spitz set new world records in all 7 events in which he competed in 1972, an achievement that still stands

  1. 100-meter freestyle (51.22)
  2. 200-meter freestyle (1:52.78)
  3. 100-meter butterfly (54.27)
  4. 200-meter butterfly (2:00.70)
  5. 4×100-meter freestyle relay (3:26.42)
  6. 4×200-meter freestyle relay (7:35.78)and 
  7. 4×100-meter medley relay (3:48.16) 
Between 1968 and 1972,Mark  Spitz won 9 Olympic golds plus a silver and a bronze, 5 Pan American golds, 31 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) titles, and 8 National Collegiate AthleticAssociation  (NCAA) titles. During those years, he set 35 world records, but two were in trials and unofficial.

In the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City,Mexico ,Mark Spitz won 2 team golds: the 4×100-meter freestyle relay in 3:31.70, and the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in 7:52.33
Silver Medal in the 100-meter butterfly in 56.40 seconds
Bronze Medal in the 100 metre freestyle in 53.0 seconds


Mark Spitz was named World Swimmer of the Year in 1969, 1971 and 1972 by Swimming World Magazine

Mark Spitz was the 3rd athlete to win 9 Olympic Gold Medals after -

2)Larisa Latynina(Soviet Union) Gymnastics
