With Priv,BlackBerry introduced its first smartphone running rival operating system.
The super pricey model
blended the traditional slider keyboard with a full touch display and
came powered by both the Android software and BlackBerry's security.
Now, the Canadian smartphone maker is back with a second device - the BlackBerry DTEK 50 - that is priced at $299 and does not feature a keyboard
The phone lacks the slider keyboard as seen in Priv but
features the customisable BlackBerry Convenience Key that lets you
access most used apps, tasks, etc with a single press.
The phone comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera with PDAF and
dual-tone LED flash accompanied with an 8 megapixel front camera with
LED flash.
The camera further includes various customisation options
such as live colour filters and manual controls
The BlackBerry DTEK 50 features a 5.2-inch scratch resistant
full HD display. Powered by Google's Android Marshmallow, it is touted
as the world's most secure Android smartphone with the standard
BlackBerry encryption.
Under its hood is a 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 Octa-Core
processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. BlackBerry is
allowing for memory expansion up to 2 TB via microSD card.
The BlackBerry DTEK50 further draws its juice from a 2610mAh
battery that is claimed to offer up to 17 hours of talk time. It further
comes pre-loaded with the standard Android and BlackBerry apps.
At $299, the phone is available for pre-order from
BlackBerry's online shop in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain,
