Honda Activa overtakes Hero Splendor to become India's largest selling two-wheeler

Honda Activa overtook Hero Splendor to become the country's largest selling two-wheeler in the first half of the current calendar year.

This is the first time in 17 years that a scooter has gained the top slot in terms of volume sales in the domestic two-wheeler market.

With sales of 1,338,015 units, Honda Activa volumes grew by over eight per cent between January and June this year over1,233,725 units sold in the year-ago period.

It has now gained a lead of 104290 units over the nearest competitor, Hero's 100 CC motorcycle Splendor.

Since its launch in 2001 as the first two-wheeler by Honda 2Wheelers India, Activa has re-energised the dying automatic scooter market. Sales of Activa rose from 55,000 units in its debut year to over 2.46 million units in fiscal 16
