Leander Paes - Indian Tennis Player

Born on June 17,1973 in a family in Calcutta that has always valued the sporting culture, Leander took to tennis like a fish takes to water.

His father, Vece Paes, was a part of the bronze medal-winning Indian hockey team at the 1972 Munich Olympics and his mother,Jennifer captained the Indian basketball team in the 1980 Asian championship.

So the attitude to win was right there with Leander from a very young age

Following his success in the singles event, largely in Davis Cup, Leander teamed up with Mahesh Bhupathi in the same year, that later went on to become one of the best doubles pair in the history of Indian and world tennis.
The duo won both the French Open and the Wimbledon in 1999 and became the first Indian pair to win a doubles event at a Grand Slam that earned Leander world No.1 doubles rank for the first time

also achieved the rare men's doubles/mixed doubles double at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships

after winning the mixed doubles Wimbledon title in 2010, became only the second man (after Rod Laver) to win Wimbledon titles in three different decades

Leadner Paes won his 16th Grand Slam trophy, winning the mixed doubles event of the 2015 Wimbledon Championship with legendary Martina Hingis on Sunday July 12,2015
