There will be no power cut from Sunday June 01,2014,Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced.
The 20 % cut in supply to high-tension industrial units and commercial establishments will be lifted.
Peak
hour restrictions (90 per cent restrictions on supply during 6 p.m-10
p.m.) on both categories of consumers will also be removed, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J
Jayalalithaa said, after a review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
“I take pride that as promised by me, Tamil Nadu
has been made free of power cut in three years,” she said, hoping the
move would help to spur industrial growth and create more jobsTamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said that while 500 megawatt (MW) was being purchased on a medium-term basis, agreements were signed for buying 3,300 MW on a long-term basis, which would be available to the State, starting from August 2014
About one-and-a-half-years ago, domestic consumers in different parts of the State, except Chennai, were reeling under severe load shedding that ranged from 12 to 14 hours.
The TN Chief Minister's announcement is made possible from a combination of factors like -
- capacity addition to the tune of 2,550 megawatt (MW)
- long-term power purchase agreements for 3,300 MW and
- the new projects in the pipeline with a generation capacity of 2,016 MW that will further ease the situation
