Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day,which is celebrated on 14 July each year.
The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on July 14,1789, an important event 226 years ago in Paris in the French REvolution, which had begun two days earlier,as well as the Fete de la Federation which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.
On 21 May 1880,Benjamin Raspail proposed a law to have "the Republic choose the July 14 as a yearly national holiday".
The Assembly voted in favour of the proposal on 21 May 21 and June 08,1880 and the Senate approved it on June 27 and June 29,1880
The law was made official on July 06,1880
