After nine months behind bars, Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel walks out on bail Friday July 15,2016

On Friday July 15,2016, the Gujarat High Court granted Hardik Patel bail in the two sedition cases booked against him in Ahmedabad and Surat, one of the conditions being that he should stay out of Gujarat for six months.

The court observed that it was unfair to blame Patel for the violence without any prima facie evidence pointing at his involvement.

Earlier, he had given an undertaking, saying that if granted bail he would not disturb law and order, and continue agitation in a peaceful and democratic manner.

The Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel has been released from jail in Surat after the High Court granted him bail in sedition and rioting cases.
The 23-year-old Hardik Patel was in jail since October last year when Surat police first arrested him in a sedition case. He is facing two sedition and one rioting case in the state. After walking out of jail, Mr. Patel reiterated that the agitation for quota will continue but at the same time, he and others would also talk to the government for compromise.

Members of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), which had become subdued since his imprisonment in October last year, were on the streets distributing sweets and bursting crackers after the news broke.
