More than four decades after that 2-0 friendly victory, where Marius Tresor was among the players for France, and Portugal are yet to overcome their upcoming opponents.

In fact, the Portuguese have suffered 10 straight losses against the tournament hosts which includes the Euro 2000 semi-finals and in the last four of the 2006 World Cup.

Their other major tournament final meeting, which came in the Euro 1984 semi-finals, saw Portugal lose again with France going on to win the tournament.

Portugal beat France 1-0 to lift 2016 UEFA Euro Title

Goal Scorer - Eder (109th minute)

A long-range stunner from substitute Eder proved to be the difference as Portugal stunned France 1-0 in the final of Euro 2016 at Stade de France in Saint-Denis

Eder, a 78th-minute replacement for Renato Sanches

With 11 minutes of the extra period to play, the goal that Portugal's fans have waited their lives to see arrived as Eder held off Laurent Koscielny and drove a crisp shot into the bottom-left corner from 25 yards.

Cristiano Ronaldo's knee injury in the first half seemed to have handed France the initiative, but Portugal managed to rally back from the disappointment to hand France their only defeat of the tournament, and lift the title in the process
Taken off in the 25th minute, he returned at the start of extra time to deliver on-pitch pep talks that appeared to inspire his team to victory.

Ricardo Quaresma, who scored the winner in the Round of 16 clash vs Croatia, replaces Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal.
