The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa lays the foundation stone for the 800 MW Stage III of the
North Chennai Thermal Power Station at Athipattu in Tiruvallur districton Friday January 29,2016 through a video conference from the Secretariat.
The
construction of the plant, which would be set up at a total cost of Rs.
6,376 crore, is expected to commence operation in August 2017 and
generate 19.2 million units of power per day, according to an official
release.
The Stage III would be spread over 250 acres
in the same campus that houses Stage I and II of North Chennai Thermal
Power Station.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa also handed over the agreement for Rs. 2,759 crore,
towards designing, production, distribution, installation and executing
after inspection of the plant to Bharat Heavy Electrials Limited (BHEL)
Chairman and Managing Director Atul Sobti.
Electricity

advisor to the government Sheela Balakrishnan, Energy Secretary N.S.
Palaniappan, Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Generation and
