Amrita Sher-Gil was born in 1913 to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother.
Today's Google doodle is based on Sher-Gil's painting "Three Girls". The painting shows three girls sitting and contemplating about their unchangeable destinies.
It was painted by the artist when she came back to India from Europe. the painting won The Gold Medal at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society in 1937.
Ms Sher-Gil had adopted her style of painting in Paris, where she learnt the use of colour and brush strokes, which added life to all her paintings.
Through her art, Amrita Sher-Gil has shown the lives of the poor, trying to depict their innocence, calmness and patience.
