Prime
Minister Narendra Modi used his first interaction with all the MPs of
the ruling National Democratic Alliance on Sunday to send out a message:
think above politics and become a force that can help chart a new
course for India.
This was the first such event organised since the BJP-led alliance came to power in May 2014
Narendra Modi’s pet projects, such as the Swachh Bharat mission and the MP’s Model Village scheme, also figured during the ‘Diwali Milan’ hosted for the nearly 400 lawmakers by the prime minister at his official 7, Race Course Road residence
The MPs of
the NDA, he said, represented a “force with tremendous positive energy”
that could help chart a new course for the country.
Referring
to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan launched earlier this month, Modi called
on the MPs to connect with people as they undertook campaign-related
efforts in their areas. He said the initiative had received a
“tremendous response” from all sections of society.
“Achieving
Swachh Bharat is tough, but just as people of this country got together
to eradi- cate polio, in the same spirit, Swachh Bharat can also be
achieved,” he said.
The MPs
were given presentations by Union ministers on Swachh Bharat, Jan Dhan
Yojana, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana and labour reforms.
