Italy's Prime Minister Enrico Letta backed by the centre-left Democratic Party and smaller centrist and centre-right groups, won the vote by 173 votes to 127
The Letta government easily won the votes in both the upper and lower chambers of parliament with the backing of a new center-right party that split from Berlusconi.
The confidence votes were called to confirm Letta's majority after centre-right leader Silvio Berlusconi pulled his Forza Italia party out of the ruling coalition on Oct 02,2013
In a speech to the lower Chamber of Deputies, Letta called for a "new start" and outlined his priorities for 2014, including stimulating the economy, reducing unemployment and reforming Italy's electoral law
