Azerbaijan's 's governing party was leading on Monday Feb 10,2020 in a snap parliamentary election called by Presiden Ilham Aliyev to consolidate power and speed up economic reforms by replacing the old guard associated with his father.
Candidates from the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan (New Azerbaijan) party won about 65 of 125 seats in the single-chamber parliament, Mazahir Panakhov, the Central Election Commission (CEC) head, said early on Monday Feb 10,2020 after counting the results from about 110 districts
The election was originally originally scheduled to take place in November 2020,but were brought forward after parliament was dissolved in December 2019
Opposition parties accused President Ilham Aliyev of limiting their ability to campaign, and called for a boycott of the election
