Ashton Turner(Australia)bought by RR for 50 Lakhs
Hard-hitting batsman Ashton Turner looks confident to make his IPL debut after a noteworthy show in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). After fetching a Rs 50 lakh deal with Rajasthan Royals, Ashton Turner celebrated with a roof-hitting six in a BBL match. He accumulated 378 runs in 14 matches for Perth Scorchers before the league's knock-out stage. The right-handed middle-order batsman was also in the headlines when he guided Australia to a series-levelling win over India at Mohali during the 5-match ODI series
Sam Curran (England) bought by Kings XI Punjab for 7.2 crores
Varun Chakravarthy(India)bought by KXIP for 8.4 crores
Uncapped 27-year-old leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy was another astonishing pick at the IPL 2019 auction as he became the joint-most expensive cricketer at a price of Rs 8.4 crore with left-arm fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat. Chakravarthy was also lapped up by Kings XI Punjab. Having played nine List A matches, the Karnataka-based spinner has claimed 22 wickets. The lucrative Indian T20 league has witnessed the magic of undiscovered spinners in time and again. It will be interesting to see what Chakravarthy brings along in the 12th season.
Shimron Hetmyer(West Indies)bought by RCB for 4.2 crores
Shimron Hetmyer waged a lone battle in a 1-3 series routing of the West Indies against India. The 22-year-old left-handed batsman smashed 259 in five matches with a highest knock of 106 runs in India. He scored 16 sixes in the series, joint-most with India's Rohit Sharma. Following the impressive batting show, Hetmyer was picked up by Royal Challenger Bangalore for Rs 4.2 crore. With Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers at the helm, Hetmyer will add to the formidable batting strength of RCB in the fresh season.
Shivam Dube(India)bought by RCB for 5 crores
Shivam Dube is a young and exciting Indian all-rounder who recently made a name for himself with his performances in the domestic circuit. He has been described as the cleanest hitter for India since Yuvraj Singh.
His performance was recognized by RCB who bought him at a whopping price of Rs 5 crores.
Dube has a strike rate of 147.44 in T20s. Besides his hitting skills, he also can roll over his arm and bowl medium pace, which would certainly help his team as bowling is not RCB's strong suit.
Prabhsimran Singh(India)bought by KXIP for 4.8 crores
After some intense bidding, the
wicketkeeper-batsman Prabhsimran Singh was bought by Kings XI Punjab for
Rs 4.8 crore. With KL Rahul already in-charge of gloves, Singh will be
in focus with the bat. Singh is yet to play a first-class match but was
in news for his 298 off 301 balls against Amritsar in the Punjab U-23
Inter-District Cricket Tournament.
Prayas Ray Barman is a leggie with a bag
full of tricks. Barman caught attention during last year’s Vijay Hazare
trophy where he grabbed 11 wickets at a stunning economy of 4.45.
Barman also had an impressive domestic T20 league last month. With RCB
going for him in the auction, Barman will get a chance to play alongside
Yuzvendra Chahal. RCB bought him for whopping sum of Rs 1.5 crore.
Nicholas Pooran(West Indies)bought by KXIP for 4.2 crores
Nicholas Pooran, the West Indian
wicketkeeper-batsman is one of the future stars for his country. The
power-hitter is in great form since 2018 after making headlines for
smashing 24 off 54 balls in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) last
year. Pooran was picked by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for Rs 4.20 crore from
his base price Rs 75 lakh. The Punjab franchise will be relying on him
for hitting big shots.
Oshane Thomas(West Indies)bought by RR for 1.1 crore
The West Indian pace bowler made
headlines during the team’s India tour in 2018 as his pace bowling
troubled Indian line-up in the limited-overs. The fast bowler will play
for Rajasthan Royals who bought him for Rs 1.10 crore. Recently, during
the 5th ODI against England, Thomas returned with his best figures 5 for
21, helping his side to draw the series.
Delhi Capitals boasts of a formidable squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan in their ranks, the Capitals are truly a force to be reckoned with.
However, when asked about the player to watch out for this season, both head coach Ricky Ponting and advisor Sourav Ganguly unanimously took the name of West Indies youngster Sherfane Rutherford.
Rutherford, who has made a name for himself while playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Carribean Premier League, was bought in the auctions for Rs 2 crore by Delhi Capitals. The 20-year-old had a base price of Rs 40 lakh and he sparked quite a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
