V. Vaithilingam, the Congress candidate for the April 18 Lok Sabha
polls from Puducherry constituency, resigned from the post of Speaker on
Friday March 22,2019
Mr. Vaithilingam, a two-time Chief Minister, was chosen by the Congress high command on Wednesday after a series of discussions held in Puducherry and Delhi over the past few days.
Following his nomination as the Congress candidate, Mr. Vaithilingam submitted his resignation as Speaker to Deputy Speaker V. P. Sivakolundu on Thursday night.
Vaithilingam represented the Nettapakkam constituency from 1985 to 2011. He moved to Kamaraj Nagar constituency in the 2011 Assembly elections after Nettappakkam was made a reserved
Assembly segment. He won the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections from Kamaraj Nagar
