Chris Gayle achieved the feat during Melbourne Renegades' Big Bash League Big Bash League league game win over Brisbane Heat at Gabba.
Chris Gayle hit two sixes in the third over of the match, bowled by Andrew Fekete to reach the record feat.
In his 16-ball innings, the left-handed opener also hit two more fours to increase his fours count to 653, which is 11 behind Australian specialist Brad Hodge's record 664
Melbourne Renegades chased down Heat's target of 180 runs with three remaining with Chris Gayle contributing 23.
The match also witnessed the flambouyant cricketer playing with a golden bat, specially prepared by manufacturer Spartan.
Chris Gayle's fellow hard-hitting West Indian Kieron Pollard is second in the list of most sixes in T20, with 388 sixes. New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is on the third spot with 290.
Chris Gayle, who is the most sought after T20 player in the world, has a number of records to his name:
- Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest hundred in T20s. Gayle smashed his way into the record books with a 30-ball blitzkrieg for Royal Challengers Bangalore, which decimated the now-defunct Sahara Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League in 2013.
- Chris Gayle remained unbeaten on 175 during that innings, which also happens to be the highest individual score in the shortest format of the game. In his 66-ball knock, he smashed 13 fours and 17 sixes.
- Chris Gayle is also the highest run-getter in T20s with 8363 runs at 44.24. Hodge is behind him with 6717 runs.
- Chris Gayle also holds the record for most centuries - 16 - and most half-centuries (53).
