It’s a score Sunil Gavaskar and Tendulkar never reached, one Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman crossed once each – in Test cricket

Rohi Sharma's 264 in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka beat the previous of 219 Runs made by Virender Sehwag against West Indies in 2011

In taking his side to 404/5, Rohit Sharma(27) also became only the second player to hit two double centuries in ODIs

Rohit Sharma sinks to his knees after reaching his second ODI double ton at the Eden Gardens
Joy: Rohit Sharma sinks to his knees after reaching his second ODI double ton at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata
The roar Rohit Sharma emitted on Thursday, while sinking to his knees and lifting his arms into the air, told a story. It was a release of emotion after three months of frustration, when he had to sit out of the Indian team due to injury.

It came after he cracked his mind-boggling second One-Day International double century.
Rohit Sharma brought it up off the third ball of the 46th over of the Indian innings. He leaned into a drive off Nuwan Kulasekara and the ball sped past Mahela Jayawardene to hit the electronic hoarding at the long-off boundary
Rohit Sharma’s knock, after he brought up the double hundred, was a blur – he simply raced to his 250 in 15 balls, and ended up with the scarcely-believable 264 Runs(173 Balls with 4x33 and 6x9)

Rohit Sharma sent many more records tumbling

1. First man in the history of the game to register two ODI double hundreds.
2. Highest individual score (264) in an ODI.
3. Highest individual score by an Indian in List A cricket.
4. Second highest individual score ever in List A cricket. Highest is in the name of Ally Browne, who made 268 for Surrey.
5. Most fours (33) in an ODI innings.
Rohit's belligerence, which saw him go from 50 to 250 in just 94 balls, also took India past 400 to register their fourth highest total in ODIs.
- India 418 for 5 vs West Indies, Indore, 2011
- India 414 for 7 vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot, 2009
- India 413 for 5 vs Bermuda, Port of Spain, 2007
- India 404 for 5 vs Sri Lanka, Kolkata, 2014
