Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday June 26,2014 held a meeting focused
primarily on devising a foolproof strategy to deal with the growing
likelihood of rising prices in a sub-par monsoon year.
While the Modi government has already received flak for implementing
the rail fare hike that was decided during the UPA's tenure, the PM is
aware that a deficient monsoon and rising crude prices could make
matters worse
With many
states and Union Territories yet to roll out the food security
programme, the Centre gave three more months to them for implementing
the landmark Act, which will push up the food subsidy bill to Rs 1.31
lakh crore.
"The
food security law came into force on July 5, 2013 and state governments
had to implement it within 365 days. But 20 states and five UTs have
not implemented the food law so far.
