The
Wimbledon women’s draw was blown wide open when top-seed Serena Williams(USA)
was dramatically bundled out by the unheralded Alize Cornet(France)
In a rain-interrupted match, Cornet came back to eliminate the former champion ahd top seed 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Serena Williams, a five-time champion, lose the day after her sister was similarly eliminated from The Championships. Venus Williams also won her first set Friday, but then dropped the final two.
Alize Cornet is the tournament's 25th seed."I don't know how I did it," Cornet said. "Just with my heart — and the help of the crowd."
It's Serena Williams earliest exit at the All England Club since 2005, when she also was beaten in the third round.
AlizeCornet never had been past the third round at the All England Club, and she only once before got to the fourth round of a major — way back at the 2009 Australian Open.

world No 1 crumbled after a dominant start in a rain-delayed
third-round clash to lose 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 124 minutes against the
24-year-old from Nice, who has never made the last 16 of these
championships.
