West Bengal Municipal Election Saturday Sep 21,2013

The State Election Commission on Friday Aug 16,2013 issued a notification for elections to 12 municipalities, spread across nine districts of West Bengal, on Sep21,2013

The polls in 12 municipal bodies that include Alipurduar in north Bengal to Diamond Harbour in the south of the State will be next major elections after the recently concluded Pancgayat Election

 The electorate is about 8.46 lakh and the outcome would be an indicator to the choice of the people living in district towns ahead of the next general elections

The 12 Municipalities are -

• Mekhliganj(Cooch Behar)
• Haldibari( Cooch Behar)
• Alipurduar(Jalpaiguri)
• Balurghat(South Dinajpur)
• Dalkhola(North Dinajpur)
• Chakdaha(Nadia)
• Panihati(24 North Parganas)
• Habra (24 North Parganas)
• Diamond Harbour(South 24 Parganas)
• Burdwan Town
• Guskara(Burdwan)
• Dubrajpur(Birbhum)

Contesting Political Parties are -
TMC,CPI-M,Congress and BJP

Nomination Dates - Aug 16-23,2013
Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidature -Aug 26,2013
Election Date - Saturday Sep 21,2013
Result,Counting of Votes -Tuesday Sep 24,2013



Note
The Calcutta HC directed last month that the polls should be held on September 21, one of the dates suggested by the poll panel, rejecting the submission of the State government that elections be held before Sep10,2013


TMC Wins Municipal Polls Tuesday Sep 24,2013
The ruling Trinamool Congress(TMC) on Tuesday Sep 24,2013 registered a resounding victory in civic polls by winning 8 of the 12 municipal bodies

Tapas Roy, secretary of the State Election Commission said that -

TMC has won in municipalities of -
Balurghat
Bardhaman
Gushkhara
Dugrajpur
Panihati
Habra
Diamond Harbour and
Chakdah
Congress has won in -
Haldibari and
Dalkhola
CPI-M has won in -
Mekhiliganj

In Alipurduar Municipality,no party was able to reach the majority mark
