Sanjay Dutt Surrenders Before TADA Court -Thursday May 16,2013

Sanjay Dutt is set to go to prison Thursday May 16,2013 after the Supreme Court last week rejected a petition seeking a review of his earlier jail sentence for firearms offences during the 1993 Mumbai Blasts


Sanjay Dutt went to the court with huge entourage which included the actor's wife Manyata, sister Priya Dutt, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.


A large number of media personnel and onlookers surrounded Sanjay Dutt's car. Police personnel were outnumbered and had a tough time controlling the crowd so that Sanjay Dutt could come out of the car and enter the courtroom.

Sanjay Dutt was also allowed to take with him copies of the Bhagwad Gita, Ramayan and Hanuman Chalisa besides his toiletries including toothpaste, shampoo, slippers, kurta, pyjama and mosquito repellants. However, TADA Judge G A Sanap rejected Dutt's request for an electronic cigarette (Dutt is a chain smoker). Instead, the judge advised him to quit smoking.

Sanjay Dutt spent his first night in Jail in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail on Thursday May 16,2013. He is awaiting an order which decides as to which jail will he be permanently shifted to.
He is most likely to be taken to Pune's Yerwada Jail in a day or two, where he will serve his three-and-a-half-year sentence. He has been allowed home-cooked meals and medicines from home for a month.

In a surprise move,Sanjay Dutt was shifted to Pune Yerawada Jail on Wednesday May 22,2013.The shifting took place exactly a week after Dutt surrendered before the Special TADA Court on May 16 after his conviction under the arms act.

Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for a 1993 weapons conviction linked to a deadly terror attack in Mumbai that killed 257 people
