Africa

Africa is the world's 2nd largest and 2nd most-populous continent, after Asia.
Africa covers 6% of the Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area.
Africa accounts for about 14.72% of the world's human population with 1.0 billion people (as of 2009) in 61 territories.
Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely regarded within the scientific community to be the origin of humans and the Hominidae clade (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors.
Africa is considered by most paleoanthropologists to be the oldest inhabited territory on Earth, with the human species originating from the continent. Anthropologists discovered many fossils and evidence of human occupation perhaps as early as 7 million years ago.

Africa contains 54 sovereign countries, most of which still have the borders drawn during the era of European colonialism. Since colonialism, African states have frequently been hampered by instability, corruption, violence, and authoritarianism. The vast majority of African states are republics that operate under some form of the presidential system of rule.
Africa's largest country is Sudan, and its smallest country is the Seychelles
Africa remains the world's poorest and most underdeveloped continent.
The African Union (AU) formed, with Addis Ababa as its headquarters, on 26 June 2001 is a 53 member federation consisting of all of Africa's states except Morocco.
