2018 Nidahas Trophy T20I Tri-Series in Sri Lanka - First Match Sri Lanka Vs India Tuesday March 06,2018

India are seen as overwhelming favourites for the tri-nation Nidahas Trophy beginning on Tuesday March 06,2018

Rohit Sharma is captaining the team in the absence of Virat Kohli, who has been rested alongside other key players such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah

India have played two full series against Sri Lanka in a six-month span with fans and experts complaining of an overkill of cricket between the two teams. Bangladesh are the third team in the tournament

Rohit Sharma is among the top 5 run scoring openers in T20Is since 1st Jan 2017 but his record against Sri Lanka leaves a lot to be desired.

Rohit Sharma has scored 315 runs in 12 matches and is the 4th highest run scoring opener in T20Is in this period.

Rohit Sharma has a strike rate of 172.13 and has the best balls per boundary rate among the other top 5 openers (3.52 balls per boundary).

But in Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma  has a very mediocre strike rate of 115.85 which is his lowest in any country in the sub-continent. He has also opened the batting just once in Sri Lanka in 6 innings.

This came during India’s tour of SL in 2017: Prior to that, Rohit Sharma batted at 4, 5, 6 & 7 between 2009 and 2012 in SL.

Interestingly, all his innings (where he has batted) have been at the R. Premadasa Stadium, where all the matches for the Nidahas Trophy are scheduled.

• Rohit Sharma has a strike rate of 146.31 in 11 innings against Sri Lanka which is his best strike rate is against any opponent. • Rohit Sharma has a strike rate of 126.46 at venues away from home as compared to his strike rate of 141.72 at home venues.

Rohit Sharma has scored most of his runs at deliveries pitching at good length outside the off stump. But Rohit Sharma has struggled to score his 149 runs in this area as he has a strike rate of 99.33 in 150 deliveries faced.

Yuzvendra Chahal Emerges as T20I Match Winner for India

Yuzvendra Chahal has emerged as India's key bowler over the years in the limited overs format and now stats prove why he is among India's biggest match winner in the shortest format.

Yuzvendra Chahal comes into this tour with 17 wickets to his name in the recently concluded South African tour.

He picked up 16 wickets in the 6 ODIs and 1 in 2 T20Is against the Proteas and would like to extend his purple patch in the upcoming series.

With India now playing Sri Lanka next, Chahal will further look to improve his statistics as he has always performed well against the island nation, picking 11 wickets in 3 T20I matches.

Yuzvendra Chahal is also among the top 5 wicket taking spinners against the Lankans and has 2 four-wicket hauls to his name. No other spinner has more 4-fors against SL than Chaha

Only 9 players have taken 10 or more wickets against SL in T20Is and out of those 9 players, 5 of them are spinners. Out of the 5 highest wicket taking spinners, 4 of them are wrist spinners including Yuzvendra Chahal with the only exception being R Ashwin.

He also has the best Strike rate against SL among the spinners to have taken more than 10 wickets.

o Amazingly, he has taken 11 Lankan wickets in 12 overs he’s bowled to them!

• Yuzvendra Chahal has also taken the most number of wickets since Jan 2017 in T20Is with 24 wickets to his name in 13 matches.

MOM              Kusal Perera(Sri Lanka)

Kusal Perera starred with the bat scoring a quick-fire 66 (37 balls 4x6 and 6x4)as Sri Lanka defeated India by 5 wickets to win the first T20I of the Nidahas Trophy in Colombo.

Chasing 175 to win, Perera killed off the chase in just the third over as he smashed Shardul Thakur for 27 runs. Sri Lanka came out all guns blazing in the chase as they went for their shots right from ball 1, taking the game to an inexperienced Indian bowling attack.

Gunathilaka and Perera put on 58-runs for the second wicket, and then Perera partnered with Dinesh Chandimal to get Sri Lanka close to the target.

But Yuzvendra Chahal bought India back into the game with the double strike, removing Perera and experienced Upul Tharanga in quick succession as it seemed Sri Lanka might struggle to cross the finishing line.

Though, Thisara Perera ensured it wasn't a case of nerves as he smashed Undkat for 16 runs -with the Indian left-armer continuing his poor form - before smashing the winning boundary.

Washington Sundar bowled well for India, picking up 2/28 in his 4 overs, and also bowling in the powerplay.

Debutant Vijay Shankar was the other bowler who bowled well for India, conceding 15 runs off his 2 overs.

Earlier, put into bat by Sri Lanka, it was the Shikhar Dhawan show for India as the southpaw scored 90 (49 balls with 4x6 and 6x6)to help India reach 174, which looked above par at that stage.

India began poorly, losing Rohit Sharma for a duck and then Suresh Raina for 1. New ball bowlers Chameera and Pradeep picked up the wickets for Sri Lanka.

In-form Manish Pandey then combined with Shikhar Dhawan to give India a platform, as the two put together 95-runs for the fourth wicket.

Just when it seemed India would move up the gears, Jeevan Mendis accounted for Pandey, who was dismissed for 35.

Rishabh Pant had a day to forget as he struggled to find any sort of timing and ended up scoring run a ball 23., with 1 four and 1 six. Dinesh Karthik scored a quick-fire 13 off 6 balls towards the end
