2017 Honduran General Election Sunday Nov 26,2017

The 2017 Honduran General Election is scheduled to be held on Sunday Nov 26,2017 to elect -

• President of Honduras to serve a 4-year term
• 128 members of the unicameral National Congress
• 20 members for the Central American Parliament and 
• Mayors for the Municipalities of Honduras 

 About 6.2 million Hondurans were eligible to vote on Sunday for president, 128 members of Congress, 20 representatives to the Central American parliament, 298 mayors, and other local officials.

Presidential Candidates

Juan Orlando Hernández of the National Party, who has held office since winning the 2013 election, is the first president in Honduran history running for a second term since the constitution established in 1972

The left-wing Libre and PINU parties formed the Opposition Alliance against Dictatorship for this election, nominating PAC founder Salvador Nasralla as its candidate

The center-right Liberal Party has decided to nominate the former president of the Central American Technological University Luis Orlando Zelaya as its candidate

Opposition takes early lead in Honduras Presidential Election

Hondurans remain on edge hours after polls closed in the presidential election as official results were suspended and two candidates declared themselves the next president of the Central American country.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) released its first report of preliminary results nearly 10 hours after polls closed showing Opposition Alliance candidate Salvador Nasralla in the lead with 45.17 percent with 57 percent of the ballot boxes counted. 

On Tuesday morning Nov 28,2017, it slightly updated the results, saying that more than 58 percent of the ballots boxes had been counted. According to that report, Nasralla is in the lead with 45.05 percent. He is followed by President Juan Orlando Hernandez of the National Party with 40.29 percent and Luis Zelaya of the Liberal Party with 13.81 percent.
