A cyclone alert has been issued by the Met department for north Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.
The area has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past days day due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
With the depression over Southwest Bay Of Bengal has moved nearly northwards, the Met department issued the cyclone alert on Wednesday.
The system is likely to move north-northeastwards and intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hours and further into a cyclonic storm in the next 48 hours.
The Met department has advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Tamil Nadu coast.
Chennai has already recorded 101 mm rainfall since Tuesday May 17,2016
