National Green Tribunal's (NGT) special circuit bench at Ernakulam
has banned the use of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and above 2000
cc in Kerala
The bench has given a period of 30 days for the ban to be implemented
The bench headed by Justice J Swatanter Kumar issued the interim order after hearing a petition filed by Lawyers' Environmental Awareness Forum (LEAF)
It was alleged in the petition that Kochi has earned the reputation of being the most polluted city and that the fate of fast-growing regions in Kerala is no different
The petition had demanded that spewing of venomous gases by the old diesel vehicles such as lorries and buses should be immediately curtailed
