D'Souza, Dayanand Mandrekar, Ramesh Tawadkar, Mahadev Naik, Dilip Parulekar, Milind Naik, Alina Saldanha (all BJP) and Sudin Dhavalikar and Pandurang Dhavalikar (both Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party) were also sworn-in as cabinet ministers Saturday. The two remaining vacancies in the cabinet are expected to be filled up later this month.
Earlier Manohar Parrikar resigned from his office of CM to be inducted into the Narendra Modi cabinet.
Parrikar faxed his resignation to Governor Mridula Sinha. His successor is expected to be appointed at 4 p.m.
The name of Manohar Parrikar’s successor is still not clear though even as
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has openly refused to work under
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Speaker Rajendra Arlekar, both of
whom are top contenders for the post because they were “junior” to him.
Laxmikant Parsekar who was sworn in as the 11th CM of Goa earlier held the portfolio of the state Health Minister.
An elated Parsekar who has strong RSS links, said, "I am very happy to be elected as the CM".
Parsekar also thanked Parrikar for his mentoring adding, "From losing my deposit to being an MLA, and Chief Minister of the state has been made possible by the mentorship of Manohar Parrikar".
