13 of the 22 legislators of Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)
today Monday Feb 24,2014 announced that they are quitting the party.
However, within an hour, six of them returned.
The rebels, led by the RJD's chief whip in the Bihar assembly Rakesh Kumar had met Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary this afternoon and sought to be recognised as a separate group; the Speaker immediately declared them "unattached" from the RJD
The breakaway group of 13 RJD lawmakers, interestingly, has five Muslim members. Their decision to back the Janata Dal (United) strengthens chief minister Nitish Kumar's claim of being the most vociferous champion of the Muslim cause

In the 2010 assembly polls, the RJD was almost routed, managing to win only 22 seats in the 243-member assembly.
JD(U) led by Nitish Kumar had won 115 seats, and its alliance partner, the BJP, 91.
The JD(U) parted ways with the BJP in June 2013 in protest against Narendra Modi's elevation in his party.
Lalu Prasad Ydav Marches To Assembly Tuesday Feb 25,2014
In a show of strength, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday declared the ‘return’ of nine of the 13 ‘rebel’ MLAs who broke away from the party on Monday to form a separate bloc.
Surrounded by the nine MLAs and other party leaders, Lalu Prasad Prasad led a boisterous march to the Vidhan Sabha and the Raj Bhavan, on foot and on a rickshaw.
RJD supporters raised slogans against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary, some throwing stones at the Speaker’s residence on the way.
