Tamil Nadu Rajya Sabha Polls Feb 07,2014



The election for the 6-seats from the state in the upper house is slated next month as the terms of -
  • N. Balaganga (AIADMK)
  • T.K. Rangarajan (CPI-M)
  • G.K. Vasan and Jayanthi Natarajan (both Congress)
  • Vasanthi Stanley and A.A. Jinnah (both DMK) 
come to an end in April 2014

DMK announce Tiruchi N Siva as its candidate who filed his nomination on Monday Jan 21,2014


AIADMK has nominated on Thursday Jan 23,2014 -

  • S. Muthukaruppan(Tirunelveli city district secretary)
  • N. Chinnadurai(Tuticorin district council chairman and the joint secretary of the party's youth wing)
  • Vigila Sathyanand (Tirunelveli Mayor)and 
  • L. Sasikala Pushpa(Tuticorin Mayor)
as its four candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats. 

CPI(M) Renominates T.K. Rangarajan 

T.K. Rangarajan has been renominated as CPI(M) candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu, State secretary G. Ramakrishnan announced on Thursday Jan 23,2014
The CPI(M) has 10 members in the State Assembly and ally CPI 8. Mr. Rangarajan needs 16 more to win the election and the numbers will come from the ruling AIADMK and the Forward Bloc

AIADMK Leader J Jayalalithaa Replaces Candidate For Rajya Sabha Polls Saturday Jan 25,2014

J Jayalalithaa replaced N Chinnadurai with A K Selvaraj, who is the party's organising secretary.

In a statement, J Jayalalithaa announced the expulsion of Mr Chinnadurai for "indulging in anti-party activities and going against its principles bringing disrepute to the ruling AIADMK."

Four AIADMK nominees - L Sasikala Pushpa, Vijila Sathyanand, AK Selvaraj and S Muthukaruppan and CPI(M)'s  T K Rangarajan filed their nomination papers in the presence of AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the state secretariat in Chennai on Monday Jan 27,2014
