Alone Yet Not Alone is removed from the Oscar race for best original song after Academy said there was 'an appearance of an unfair advantage'
Alone Yet Not Alone is taken from the independent faith film of the same name, which was only available on limited release, and the song is performed in the film by a quadriplegic Evangelical minister.
Alone Yet Not Alone, nominated in the category for Best Original Song has now been withdrawn from the competition by the academy
The song's writer, Bruce Broughton, is a former Academy Awards governor and current music branch executive committee member.
The Academy's board of governors met this week to discuss allegations that the
nomination was unfair, and subsequently announced that it would be removed
from the category.
They said their investigation had revealed that Broughton "had emailed
members of the [Academy Awards music] branch to make them aware of his
submission during the nominations voting period".
