Iraqi PM Nouri Al-Maliki on a 4-day Visit to India Aug 23-26,2013

Iraqi PM Nouri Al-Maliki with President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday Aug 23,2013

The Iraqi Prime Minister said India and Iraq were friendly countries seeking to strengthen their relationship and maintaining a high level of contacts. He said they could complement each other: while India needs energy, Iraq needs investment to generate employment

Iraq had been India’s second largest crude oil supplier, a mutually beneficial partnership. India desired to elevate the buyer-seller relationship to a broad-based level with equity partnership in oil production, and joint ventures in oil exploration, petrochemical complexes and fertilizer plants etc
(Iraq has emerged as India’s second largest crude oil supplier with bilateral trade in excess of USD 21 billion in 2012-13)

Expressing his happiness to visit India, Prime Minister Maliki thanked Dr Singh for the warm and gracious hospitality extended to him and the members of his delegation during their stay

“He invited Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to visit Iraq at a mutually convenient time. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh gladly accepted the invitation,” said a joint statement issued after the talks between Dr Singh and Prime Minister Maliki.
