Xi Jinping(DOB June 15,1953)General Secretary of theCommunist Party of China,Chairman of the Party Central Military Commission and the first ranked member of the Politburo Standing Committee has been named President of China,the world's most populous country after a vote at its parliamentary meeting in Beijing onThursday March 14,2013. Officially he is being elected for a 5-year term, but barring extraordinary events or death the 59-year-old will hold the position for a decade
Xi Jinping’s accession marks only the second orderly transfer of power in more than six decades of Communist Party rule. He was the only candidate for president in Thursday’s ballot. The delegates voted 2,952-to-1 for Xi with 3 delegates abstained.
After the result was announced, Xi Jinping bowed to delegates and turned to Hu Jintao(outgoing Chinese President)seated on his right. The two of them shook hands and posed for photos.
"Now I announce comrade Xi Jinping is selected as president of the People's Republic of China," Liu Yunshan, a top official of the ruling party, who chaired the electoral session at the National People's Congress, said.
Xi was named head of the Communist Party and chairman of its military in Nov 2012
Vice President of China
Li Yuanchao, a member of the Communist Party's Politburo but not among its top seven-member standing committee and a figure seen as having reformist leanings, was selected as vice-president with a vote of 2,839-80
Prime Minister of China
The new premier - widely expected to be Li Keqiang - is scheduled to be named on Friday March 15,2013, replacing Wen Jiabao.
