World’s longest cross-sea bridge


China’s Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, the world’s longest cross-sea bridge, (26  miles 42 kms long) linking the eastern port city of Qingdao and the offshore island Huangdao, opens on June 30, 2011.The 110-foot (35-meter)-wide bridge is the longest of its kind and cost more than 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion).It has taken 4 years to build the bridge, which is supported by more than 5,000 pillars















According to Guinness World Records, the previous record holder for a bridge over water is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana. The Chinese bridge is more than 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) longer.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway  consists of two parallel bridges crossing Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana, USA. The longer of the two bridges is the 8thlongest in the world and the longest over water, measuring 23.83 miles (38.35 km) long.
