Shubman Gill has become the youngest batsman to score a first class double hundred.
He broke Gautam Gambhir’s 17 year old record.
At just 19 years and 334 days of age, Gill scored an unbeaten 204. Gbhir had scored a double ton for Board President XI in 2002 at the age of 20 years 124 days.
Gill was representing India A against West Indies A at the Brian Lara stadiom in Trinidad. He was involved in an unbeaten 315 run stand with Hanuma Vihari, who scored 118 runs.
Having been asked to bat first, India A were bowled out for 201 in the first innings with Shubman Gill gone for a golden duck. But Krishnappa Gowtham’s six wicket haul helped India A bowl West Indies A for 194. The Indians once again, found themselves in deep troupe with the scoreboard reading 50 for 4. But the 19 year old Gill, along with Hanuma Vihari made sure that no more wickets fell at least for 315 more runs, when India A declared at 365 for 5, setting West Indies A a target of 373.
Gill’s innings of 204 runs came off just 250 balls with 19 fours and two sixes.
He played the IPL 2019, representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), giving good returns. Gill scored 499 runs in 27 IPL matches so far at a strike rate of 132
