India adopted the constitution on November 26, 1949, which came into force on January 26, 1950, marking the country's first Republic Day.
Republic Day Celebrations
The main celebration of Republic Day involves a parade in New Delhi which starts from the iconic India Gate and carries on along the Rajpath.
The parade includes marching contingents, various tableaux and performances showcasing the different cultures of the country.
This year's parade will feature tableaux from 14 states and union territories, and nine central ministries.
In the grand tradition of the Republic Day celebrations at the Rajpath in New Delhi, this year also the ceremonious parade showcases India’s diversity of culture, and the capabilities of our armed forces

Every year, since 1950, India has hosted a head of state or government of another country as the state guest of honour.

In 2008, France's President Nicolas Sarkozy visited India for the Republic Day Parade when India marked when India marked its 59th Republic Day.

AIR's Tableau to Feature Mahatma Gandhi's Maiden Broadcast
For the first time, All India Radio will showcase its tableau during the Republic Day parade, depicting a historic event when Mahatma Gandhi made his maiden and only broadcast through AIR in the wake of post Partition communal riots.
The front portion of the trailer showcases farmers listening to the radio while engrossed in an agricultural operation, (besides) soldiers listening to popular programmes of AIR like 'Jaimala' from advance locations in the frontier
It will also showcase communities in rural areas listening to radio programmes, Sheheryar added.
The tableau will also have luminaries from the world of Indian music and a portion showcasing the AIR modernisation process with a young presenter in a modern setting.
The AIR also launched a song on the theme 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat', composed by renowned santoor player Pandit Bhajan Sopori.
Languages like Punjabi, Kashmiri, Gujarati, Bangla and Tamil feature in the song, whose title 'Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat' has been voiced by PM Modi.
Prominent singers Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam and Ustad Raashid Khan among others have lent their voice to the song.
