 India VS Australia Fourth ODI @ Bengalu Preview

The current India-Australia series has witnessed some peculiar patterns. India dominating, Australia collapsing, Hardik Pandya hurting them every time, Glenn Maxwell dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in each game and rain accompanying the two teams on every location so far.

In the Chennai, Kolkata and Indore ODIs, rain a couple of days before match day dominated the buildup. The situation is no different in Bangalore, where the Indian team’s practice session in the afternoon was ruined by a steady drizzle. The forecast on match day is not too promising, with scattered thunderstorms forecast in the afternoon.

However, the new M Chinnaswamy Stadium has a drainage system that dries the outfield quickly. Thanks to the subsurface aeration system, play can resume within minutes if it stops raining.

For Virat Kohli’s side, rain or no rain, they have established a blueprint that has served them well. With the series in the bag, India will not only be gunning for a 5-0 whitewash but will want a perfect 10, their best winning streak in ODIs. On the other hand, Steve Smith’s side is struggling for ideas as they look to reverse their worst overseas losing streak.

Steve Smith’s side has lost 11 out of 13 overseas ODIs. They arrive at a venue where they have won only one out of four games. India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has had a field day in sledging the Australians, from calling for the return of Michael Clarke to the middle order to stating that the current Australian team is like “Sri Lanka in yellow.”

Australia are in a similar situation that India faced during their tour Down Under in 2016. After losing the first four games, India won the fifth ODI and the remaining three Twenty20 Internationals to tie the tour score line to 4-4.

David Warner, who will be playing his 100th ODI, has said that there is still plenty at stake for Australia and that they will give their best in the remaining five games

Ahead of the match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, here are some of the approaching milestones for the teams and the players

27 - David Warner will become the 27th Australian player to play 100 ODIs. Steve Smith recently entered the club during the Kolkata ODI. Ricky Ponting leads the list for Australia with 375 ODIs, although one game was with the ICC World XI.

10 - David warner currently has an average of just over 44 in ODIs. Only nine other Australian batsmen have an average of over 40 even after playing over 100 ODIs. Michael Bevan leads the list with an average of 53.58.

2 - Rohit Sharma needs to hit two more sixes to become the first batsman in history to have hit 50 sixes against Australia. Currently, he has 48 sixes from 26 ODIs. Eoin Morgan is a distant second with 39 sixes

3 - Rohit Sharma will become the third batsman overall to hit over 50 sixes against one opposition in ODIs. Sanath Jayasuriya slammed 53 sixes against India. Shahid Afridi has hit over 50 sixes against three opponents. He smashed 63 sixes against Sri Lanka, 51 against India and 50 against New Zealand.

3 - Australia have lost three out of the four ODIs that they have played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium against India. Their only win came in 2003, when Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting slammed centuries to help Australia to victory.

157 - Number of runs needed by Rohit Sharma to go past 6000 ODI runs. He will become the ninth Indian batsman to reach this feat.

5 - Number of consecutive wins for India against Australia if they win in Bangalore. A win in Bangalore will result in India winning 10 straight ODIs, their best-ever streak.

63 - Rohit’s average against Australia in ODIs. He has the best average for any player currently who has played more than 15 ODI against Australia.
