Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal produced a gripping 78-minute encounter that would have satisfied the purists, and in the end it was the fitter and more consistent Joshna who emerged the women’s champion in the Jio-19th Asian individual squash championship at the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai on Sunday April 30,2017
The 13-15, 12-10, 11-13, 11-4, 11-4 win was easily Joshna’s best show against her good friend and fierce rival in recent times. This is the first time an Indian is winning Asian title; Misha Grewal came closest when she was runner-up in the 1996 edition.
Earlier, Hong Kong’s Max Lee, the top seed, defeated Saurav Ghosal 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 in the men’s final.
