British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in smog-bound New Delhi late on Sunday Nov 06,2016 on a trade-focused visit and will travel to technology hub Bengaluru on Tuesday Nov 08,2016
She is accompanied by a delegation of around three dozen business leaders
This is her first bilateral engagement outside Europe since taking office in July.
The British PM's three-day visit comes in the backdrop of the historic June referendum in UK favouring Brexit or an exit from the EU and as part of the new May-led government's move to step up engagement with countries outside the 28-nation European Union.
Although Britain cannot sign any bilateral trade deals until it has left the European Union -- most likely in 2019 -- May's visit is seen as signalling a desire to get the ball rolling as early as possible
She will begin her visit on Monday with a speech to the U.K.-India Tech
Summit taking place in the city. She is set to hold bilateral talks with
the Prime Minister later that day, following meetings with business and
investors.
On Tuesday, she will head for Bengaluru, where a tech summit is also
being held. It’s worth noting that the size of delegation is
considerably smaller than the over 100 initially expected.
