Ravichandran Ashwin became only the third Indian cricketer ever to score over 500 runs and take more than 50 wickets in a calendar year.

World No. 1 Test bowler and the number one allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin has added another feather in his cap as he became only the third Indian cricketer ever to score over 500 runs and take more than 50 wickets in a calendar year.

Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the feat during the third Test match at Mohali Nov 26-29,2016 against England which India won by 8 wickets and take a lead of 2-0 in the 5-Match Test Series and etched his name amongst the illustrious group of cricketers, who have dominated the 22-yards with both bat and ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the third Indian cricketer to achieve this feat. Prior to this, Vinoo Mankad achieved the feat in 1953 and Kapil Dev did it twice - in 1979 and 1983.

In the past 10 years, only 23 bowlers have achieved this feat.

Former England cricketer Ian Botham, who is one of the greatest cricketing allrounders the game has ever seen, scored 500 runs and claimed 50 wickets in a calendar year twice in his illustrious career.

Ian Botham did it for the first time in 1978, scoring 597 runs in 12 Tests at an average of 39.8 including 3 centuries and claimed 66 wickets with six 5-wicket hauls. The year 1981 saw Botham achieving the milestone once again. He scored 629 runs at an average of 28.59 and picked 62 wickets with 4 five-wicket hauls.

The 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev is the best all-rounder India has ever produced. Kapil scored 500 runs and bagged 50 wickets in a calendar year twice in his career.

In 1979, he scored 619 runs at an average of 30.95 and claimed 74 wickets. The former India captain achieved the rare double for a second time in 1983.

In the year he guided India to the ODI World Cup, Kapil was equally effective in the longest format of the game. He scored 579 runs at an average of 22.26 including a century and also picked up 75 wickets.
