2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil Aug 05-21,2016 - Notable Milestones






1)Japan's Kohei Uchimura became the first artistic gymnast in 44 years to successfully win back-to-back Olympic All-Round Titles
He also helped Japan take team gold for the first time since the Athens Games in 2004.

2)Britain's Mo Farah became the first man to complete the 5000 Metres in 13:3.3 seconds and 10000 Metres  in 27:5.17 seconds  at back-to-back Games since Finland's Lasse Viren at the Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976.


3)World-record holder Ashton Eaton of the USA became the first man to win back-to-back Olympic Gold Medals in the decathlon since Britain's Daley Thompson at the 1980 and 1984 Games.
Ashton Eaton took the gold by equalling the Olympic record points tally of 8,893


4)Team GB's Andy Murray became the first ever player to defend an Olympic Individual Tennis Title

5)Jamaica's Elaine Thompson became the first woman to complete the sprint double at the Olympic Games for 28 years - 100 Metres in 10.71 Seconds and 200 Metres in 21.78 Seconds since Florence Griffith-Joyner in Seoul in 1988.




6)China's Wu Minxia became the first diver to win 5 Olympic Gold Medals when she sealed victory in the women's 3m synchronised springboard event with Shi Tingmao

7)Japanese wrestler Kaori Icho become the first woman to win an individual gold medal in four straight Olympic Games in any sport, when she took the 58 kilogram women's freestyle title.

She also became the first wrestler in Olympic history to win four gold medals, and afterwards dedicated it on the memory of her late mother

8)Brazil get the gold they really wanted
Brazil's football team's talisman Neymar delivered a national obsession, scoring the winning penalty in the final against Germany to secure an elusive first-ever gold for the five-time world champions.


Neymar also set a new record for fastest goal scored at the Olympics, when he scored after just 14 seconds in the semi-final game against Honduras.

9)USA's Simone Biles won four gold and one bronze -- from her first Olympics, to confirm her place among the greatest names of her sport.

10)The 10-strong refugee team that competed under the Olympic flag were welcomed to the Games Village in classic Brazilian style: warmly and with plenty of music and dancing.


Hundreds of athletes from other countries were there to greet them, and Syrian swimmer Rami Anis even showed off his samba steps
