6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Myanmar Wednesday Aug 24,2016



A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Wednesday Aug 24,2016 causing strong tremors in Kolkata, Patna and several other parts of east and northeast India.





According to National Centre for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the epicenter of the quake was 25km West of Chauk in Burma and it occurred at 4:04 PM at a depth of 58 kms.

Tremors were felt in Bihar, West Bengal and northeastern states in India, spreading panic among people

There were no immediate reports of loss to life or property.

The quake, which the US Geological Survey said hit at a depth of 84 kilometres (52 miles), was also felt across neighbouring Thailand, India and Bangladesh, sending panicked residents rushing onto the streets.
