Johanna Konta, the first British female tennis player to be seeded at Wimbledon in more than 30 years has crashed out of the championships.
Johanna
Konta, 25, the UK’s women’s number one, had hoped to continue her
stream of successes over the last year, in which she reached the fourth
round at the US Open and the semi-finals at the Australian Open.
Just a year
ago she was ranked 126th in the world, but her recent performances
resulted in a Wimbledon ranking of 16 – the first time a British woman
had been seeded since Jo Durie in 1984.
But her dream came to an end in the second round when she lost 3-6, 6-1, 1-6 to Canadian Eugenie Bouchard.
