Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn face coup after 46 of his front bench MPs resign in protest at his leadership during the referendum

Labour descended into utter chaos last night after an astonishing frontbench walkout over Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

The party threatened to split in two as 46 of its most senior MPs resigned in protest at his disastrous handling of the EU Referendum held on Thursday June 23,2016

In the Commons, Labour MPs shouted ‘resign’ as their party leader tried to warn them against ‘internal factional manoeuvring’.

They then savaged him at what was described as a brutal meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party. Colleagues urged him face to face to quit.

The Labour mutiny follows Jeremy Corbyn’s lukewarm endorsement of the party’s campaign to keep Britain in the EU, which is blamed by some for the decision of many traditional supporters to back Brexit last week.

Jeremy Corbyn was also facing astonishing claims that he voted to Leave despite Labour’s campaign to keep Britain in the EU.

Jeremy Corbyn has now suffered an almost complete walk out of his shadow cabinet as 20 full members resigned, followed by at least another 18 more junior figures. Angela Smith and Lord Bassam, both peers, have effectively gone on strike and said they will not attend Cabinet until Mr Corbyn quits

More than 1,000 people turned out to support him, waving posters, banners and placards backing him
