The Election Commission on Friday announced that election in
Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies would be held on June 13 and
the process will conclude on June 20,2016
The EC notification came a few hours after its counsel agreed in the Madras high court to postpone the already deferred election by three more weeks.
The notification said the probe teams inspecting two constituencies had submitted their reports and that more time was required to study the situation.
The commission made a submission in the court when writ petitions filed by BJP's M S Ramalingam (Thanjavur) and PMK's M Baskaran (Aravakurichi) came up for hearing.
After recording the statement by Niranjan Rajagopalan, counsel for EC, a vacation bench of Justice K Kayanasundaram and Justice D Krishnakumar adjourned the case to June for further hearing.
Scheduled to be held on May 16, polls to the two segments were postponed to May 23 following allegations of cash distribution for votes
